Choosing the Right Finish for the Inside of Your Commercial Building

Posted on

If you are getting ready to paint the inside of your building, not only do you need to choose the right color to really make your space flow, but you also need to choose the right finish. The finish you choose for your paint will impact how the paint looks and how you can clean the surface that the paint is on. These are both important considerations when painting the inside of your commercial space.

Matte or Flat Finish

Flat or matte finishes are popular to use because they are non-reflective, unlike most paint finishes. Being non-reflective can help hide imperfections on the surface where the paint is applied, so if a wall is not in perfect shape, that can easily be hidden with matte or flat paint.

Regular matte paint can be easily compromised by cleaning. In a commercial building, you will want to use matte paint with a scrubbable flat finish. This is a special formula that allows you to enjoy a non-reflective surface while also being able to clean the surface.

Eggshell Finish

Another option is an eggshell finish. An eggshell finish will give your paint a nice, rich look, highlighting the color pigment in the paint. Additionally, the eggshell finish is naturally more durable than matte paint but not the most durable finish. Eggshell finish works well in low-traffic areas that you will need to clean occasionally, but not frequently where you want a rich color tone.

Satin Finish

One of the two most popular types of finish used in commercial buildings is a satin finish. With a satin finish, you get a higher gloss level than with an eggshell or matte finish. This gives the paint a little more shine and sparkle. It is also better at withstanding wear and tear and can be cleaned more frequently without breaking down. The smooth surface also makes it easy to wipe the paint clean.

Semi-Gloss Finish

The second most popular commercial finish is a semi-gloss finish. Semi-gloss finishes work best in areas that demand many cleanings, such as a kitchen, restaurant, medical building, or hotel. In commercial buildings that get high traffic levels and require high levels of cleanliness, a semi-gloss finish is also a good fit.

When painting your commercial space, you need to think about how you want the paint to look and feel. You also need to consider if you will need to wipe down the walls frequently, as frequent cleaning will impact the type of finish you should use. Work with companies like Blue Star Painting Company if you're ready to choose the most appropriate paint style for inside the building and listen to the advice they offer you.
